I wrapped my first performance of 2025 at Nivessa Records on Hollywood Boulevard. Even though I’ve been living in LA for over 9 years now, I don’t usually visit the boulevard — usually I’ve found it to to too busy with tourists for my liking. Last time I went was to see a movie at the Chinese TCL Theatre — a good reason to go, despite the hordes of people. This time, turns out, Nivessa Records was an even better reason to return.
Nivessa Records itself had an inviting and bright energy, practically highlighted on the street with equally bright yellow paint. The walls lined with records, the walkways carved out with displays of records and DVDs as well. When I arrived, there was a modest set-up: the DJ who introduced himself to me as Zack, DJ equipment (of course) including a heavily stickered laptop (my favorite kind), and two large monitors on a mini stage.
When it came for me to sing, I felt more at ease than I expected. It helped that the audience (also laden with creatives) seemed genuinely appreciative of each artist coming up to perform, and they made me feel encouraged and welcome up on stage. I sang three songs, including one of my favorite originals: SMOKE. I was really happy to hear the production of the song fit this particular live setting really well. Performing SMOKE reminded me of how far I’ve come over the years, and how I hope to stay blessed in the coming decades to keep producing and releasing quality music. I chatted and connected with a few artists afterward, and the cherry on top was getting a personal text from the booker, Castro, “Thank you for coming out. Every one enjoyed your set.” It always feels good to be appreciated for spreading good energy through my music, and I’m grateful I get to keep doing this.
I’m looking forward to the next show, and — on a slightly unrelated note — I’m excited to announce the drop for my next music video as well. The highly anticipated music video drop for “Liberation” is finally arriving Feb 9th! Keep an eye on my socials for more. Love and appreciate y’all.

Malsi
